The Bacteria of Anxiety

“Who of you worrying can add a single hour to your life?” Luke 12:25 (NIV)
Anxiety can and will quietly sneak up and infect us before we even know we’ve been infected. I believe anxiety is one of the devils’ favorite weapons he wields today. Anxiety is debilitating spiritually, physically and emotionally.
Symptoms of anxiety:
• Headaches
• Muscle pain and tension especially in the head, neck, and jaw
• Nausea
• Irritable bowels
• Chest pain
• Accelerated heart rate
• Shortness of breath
• Sleep disturbance
• Dizziness or feeling faint
• Feeling like you’re going insane
I fell victim to a few of the above-mentioned symptoms of anxiety over the past couple of weeks. Even being aware that anxiety is the enemy’s popular tool I still fell prey to it. I knew what was happening, but I couldn’t stop it by my own strength. 1 Peter 5:8, “Be alert & of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (NIV).” Note that this verse does not say, might prowl around or in the past tense, prowled around. He is actively prowling around in your life looking for any chink in your armor to seek and destroy you from the inside out.
How could I allow this to happen? Busyness, packing too many things into my day and not getting into His word daily was the chink in my armor. Hey, I dove into the word faithfully but… these past couple weeks I wasn’t faithful to this practice. Amazing how setting time aside to anoint your day in His word is a healthy dose of penicillin against anxiety bacteria running rampant in our systems.
In my quest for healing; I dove back into the word. Not just casually reading a chapter; I sought counsel in His word. Setting time aside to commune with God so he could do His best work in and through me. Luke 10:19, “I have given you the authority to overcome all the power of the enemy (NIV).” Note, the wording, “All the power of the enemy” in this scripture promise from God. Not just a portion or small dose but we have all the power to defeat the enemy. Praise Jesus!
Expelling the bacteria of anxiety from our system may not happen overnight. Let’s be real, this healing may take hours, weeks, months, or years. However, God is the same, yesterday, today, and forever and so are his promises. Linking arms with Jesus daily to live out his will in our daily lives thwarts schemes of the devil.
